Beach Warning Flags

 Before you visit the beach, it’s always a good idea to see what color the beach warning flag is that day.  The Florida Coastal Management Program has provided the chart below to explain what each flag color means:

Be Wary of Rip Currents

If you ever find yourself being pulled away from shore by a rip current, DO NOT try to swim against the current.  It can exhaust even the strongest swimmers and carry them out to sea.  Instead swim parallel to the shore line until you are free from the current’s pull.  Refer to the infographic below for more info:
